July 31, 2007

Washington, DC - Chief Justice John Roberts was released Tuesday from a Maine hospital where he had been taken Monday after suffering a seizure near his vacation home.

Chief Justice John Roberts was released Tuesday from a Maine hospital where he had been taken Monday after suffering a seizure near his vacation home.

Shortly after 11 a.m., wearing a blue blazer and khaki slacks, he strode unassisted out of Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport, waved to reporters, got in the rear of an SUV and was driven off.

Doctors had said test results "showed no cause for concern," the Supreme Court said Monday.

Roberts, 52, fell Monday afternoon on a floating ramp near his home. Doctors diagnosed the seizure as benign and idiopathic, meaning one that caused no apparent damage and had no identifiable cause, the court statement said.
