LaVar Arrington tears Achilles tendon

New York Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington tore his right Achilles tendon in the second quarter of the team's game against Dallas on Monday night.

Arrington got his first career safety earlier in the game. The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker will need surgery and will miss the rest of the Giants' season. The former Penn State star signed a seven-year contract with New York in the off-season. Originally drafted with the second overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, Arrington spent the first six years with the Washington Redskins, recording 467 tackles, 22.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
