Miami Football Player ShotNovember 8th, 2006Miami, FL - University of Miami defensive lineman Bryan Pata has been shot and killed at his apartment complex in Miami. The 22-year-old defensive tackle trained in the afternoon, but was pronounced dead in the parking lot outside his apartment at around 7:30pm. Pata was in his fourth year with the Hurricanes and was expected to be selected in next spring's NFL draft. Miami-Dade police spokesman Roy Rutland confirmed Pata's death was being treated as murder. Pata's devastated mother, Jeanette Pata, stood outside his apartment Tuesday night wearing a replica of her son's football jersey. "My son had a problem with nobody," a tearful Pata told WTVJ-TV in Miami: "He's gone, he's gone." Miami University released a statement in tribute to the murdered star. "Bryan was a fine person and a great competitor," it said. "He will be forever missed by his coaches and team-mates. We offer our thoughts and prayers to his family." © AlaskaReport News |
