Avalanche Buries Cars In Berthoud Pass, Colorado
January 6th, 2007
Denver, Colorado - An avalanche on the road to a popular ski area in Berthoud Pass has blocked US 40 in both directions, burying some cars under deep snow.
The slide happended on a busy Saturday morning on U.S. 40 near 11,307-foot-high Berthoud Pass.
"Our crews said it was the largest they have ever seen. It took three paths," said Stacey Stegman, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation reports the Associated Press.
The AP is also reporting that rescue crews had saved at least six people at the site 60 miles west of Denver.
Berthoud Pass is a heavily traveled route to Winter Park ski area.
