Tampa Bay - Tampa Bay has signed quarterback Jeff Garcia and acquired Jake Plummer through a trade with the Broncos.

Tampa Bay has signed quarterback Jeff Garcia and acquired Jake Plummer through a trade with the Broncos.

Garcia was a free agent as Philadelphia opted not to keep him even though he led the Eagles to the NFC East crown in Donovan McNabb's absence last season.

Tampa Bay agreed a trade with Denver for Plummer, with the Broncos getting a conditional pick in the 2008 draft.

The pair are likely to compete with incumbents Chris Simms and Bruce Gradkowski for the starting role at the Buccaneers next season.

Garcia, 37, has passed for 20,385 yards and 136 touchdowns in eight NFL seasons that have included stints with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers.

Plummer lost his place as Denver's first-choice quarterback to rookie Jay Cutler with five games remaining last season.

The 32-year-old threw for 29,253 yards and 161 touchdowns in 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and the Broncos.
