March 11, 2007

Anaheim, CA - High winds drove a brush fire toward subdivisions in the southern suburbs of Los Angeles on Sunday, with firefighters ordering residents of about 100 homes to evacuate.

High winds drove a brush fire toward subdivisions in the southern suburbs of Los Angeles on Sunday, with firefighters ordering residents of about 100 homes to evacuate.

The fire had consumed at least 500 acres and set two homes ablaze by mid-afternoon, the Orange County Fire Authority reported. The fire began shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday near the Anaheim Hills, about 35 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Firefighters said a car fire ignited nearby brush, and Santa Ana winds between 30 mph and 40 mph contributing to its spread over the rough terrain around a nearby park.
